When is The Open Enrollment Period?

The Open Enrollment period starts on November 1, 2023 and ends on January 15, 2024. If you enroll by December 15, 2023 your coverage will begin on January 1, 2024.

Unless Congress acts to extend the January 15, 2024 deadline, you will be unable to purchase an Obamacare Plan until the next Open Enrollment period begins in the fall of 2024. Between this Open Enrollment Period and the next period, you can only enroll in an Obamacare Plan if you have a Qualifying Life Event.

If you previously purchased an Obamacare Plan in 2021/2023, that coverage will expire on December 31, 2023. You can choose to either renew your current plan or purchase a new plan, but you have to act before January 15, 2024.

When Does Coverage Begin

If you enroll during the Open Enrollment period, your coverage begins as follows:

Enrollment during the first 15 days of the month -- your coverage will begin on the first day of the following month. For example, if you enroll by December 15, 2023, your coverage will begin on January 1, 2024.

Enrollment between the 16th and last day of the month -- your coverage will begin on the first day of the second month following your enrollment. For example, if you enroll on December 16, 2023, your coverage will begin on February 1, 2024.
